Three hours, twenty songs, one theme a week, hosted by Dez Marlowe — who is a voice, not a person, and is credited as one. It exists because American Top 40: The 80s is not licensable to a station this size, and the hole it left is still the best hour of the weekend if somebody fills it properly.

Three episodes aired. Every one of them ran ten to fifteen minutes short, every hour, and nobody could say why. The answer turned out to be arithmetic. Reading the real cached runtimes out of StationPlaylist and adding them against the aired song lists: hour one needed 15:52 of host talk, hour two needed 13:17, hour three 14:32. Dez was delivering about three and a half minutes. The songs were never the problem — the library average was 3:56, slightly longer than the sheet had planned for. The show was being built by counting songs instead of adding up time, and there was no step anywhere in the process that would ever have caught it.

So the format was rebuilt around the only equation the show actually has. An hour is sixty minutes. Take out twelve minutes of commercial and ninety seconds of imaging and what remains is music plus host. Pick the music and the amount the host has to say is decided, not estimated. A tool now reads the station’s library, adds up the real cart lengths, and refuses to call an hour clean if the talk budget falls outside the band. Nine hours across three episodes, every one inside two minutes of target.

The same pass fixed the host. Dez had one speed because every break in the show was the same length — thirty-eight takes, all fifteen to twenty-five seconds, every one built the same way. That is not a performance problem and no amount of emotion tagging repairs it; you cannot play range inside a shape that never varies. He now has five named gears, and the loudest one is rationed to three uses an hour.

It is built to be carried by stations that are not Power88, which is a harder constraint than it sounds. The master names no station anywhere — not a call sign, not a frequency, not a stream, not a daypart. Everything station-specific is a hole an affiliate fills with its own audio, including the legal ID they need at the top of the hour and we are contractually incapable of running over. Power88 fills those holes exactly like anybody else.

Every fact in it is checked against a primary source before it reaches the microphone, and where the truth is genuinely disputed the show says so on air. That is the entire premise of a programme called 20/20 Hindsight, and it is the one thing it cannot afford to get wrong.
